New Study on the Use of Pacifiers


Among the many directives today’s new mothers get is a stern warning about the use of pacifiers. Lactation advocates say pacifiers can cause “nipple confusion” and interfere with nursing. And in many cases, that warning has become a matter of policy: Hospitals that seek a “Baby Friendly” designation from the World Heath Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund must agree not to offer pacifiers to breastfeeding newborns.
